really loosing heart - And What is this? (pictures)

Recommended Posts

Hey all, ive not been on since we lost Nótt, I'm really loosing heart, I'm just not having much luck with my chickens :(

One (Var) was ill had baytril and got well,

One( Nótt) had a prolapse and had to be PTS - And was much older than we were led to belive.

One (Ran) now has wheezing and is on Baytril

And now the only layer I have (Sól) has just laid the weirdest egg ive ever seen in my life. :boohoo:

It appeared to be a double yoker, except one bit was a yolk and one bit was a rumpled bit of what looks like cream tissue with a sack attached to it, within the sack was a clear blob with two parts to it . . what on earth is it?

I think I may just jump off a bridge if it’s a fertilised egg, as that obviously means I have a cockerel (and even that must be mute)

I've checked on here, with a friend who has kept hens for over 10 years, and the vet, and they all say im looking after them right so why are so many things going wrong, were they just not healthy to start with :(

Poor you :( . You're really not having much luck, are you :( . I really hope things start getting a bit better for you soon  .

I'm wondering if that is a lash. It doesn't look much like any I've seen before but perhaps it just got mixed up in the middle of an egg so looks a bit different. If she doesn't lay any more like that, I'd not worry too much.

Hey Mothernature,

You've been reassured by an experienced friend and a vet - you're not doing anything "wrong". Don't lose heart!

It's all a learning curve (especially where nature is concerned). You will become more experienced by what has happened and maybe help someone less knowledgeable along the way ...

We haven't actually bought too many girls. Raised a few from chicks and adopted half of our current flock. We've been very lucky by all accounts

Our tropical fish tank continunes to frustrate us yet the girls more or less look after themselves these days. The WIR was the best thing we ever did as far as they were concerned ...

Have a fantastic w/e and please don't worry - you're keeping chickens and that's just fantastic

Kind rgds, Pat & Steve

I agree with all the others.

Just extra reassurance from someone that has tooo many weird looking things to mention. therefore looks like a perfectly normal weird lash/egg /softee/ mixed up concoction and as long as the chook is fine dandy eating drinking happy etc, I would not be worrying :D

speaking as a head/chief neurotic worryier :!:

I would give some extra calcium though, even the softees use contractions and they are really hard work for them, and I understand the calcium helps contractions.

but....

if she does begin to look begin poorly...

fluids and

vet!
