Phosphorus
She is 21 weeks tomorrow. Was pretty sure she was a girl but ...... on the odd morning she has made a quite strong gratey noise if I am late opening eglu door - getting worried she might be trying to crow Hasn't made any noise once out of the eglu. Anyway these are the piccies of her I took today. Let me know what you think. Her feathers are quite rounded on her back so I was quite hopeful, but Tasha says her boys are as well Her comb has only just started to go red, which the breeder said (if she is a girl) could mean she was just getting to POL. Oh and she doesn't act like a boy at all , her brother when still with us would face up to all my other girls and try to be a man , Lily is the flightiest I have ever known, runs a mile from all my other girls and is a complete coward
Jools
I have absolutely no experience at all with this breed, but she does look very girly. Hope so anyway!!
Redwing
I'd say girl maybe?? I did read something saying what colour beaks girls and boys normally have but I cannot find the thread - it was on the Practical Poultry forum, something about dark and light beaks
The Dogmother
Looks like a girl to me. I have a few araucanas and they don't make 'regular hen noises', more of a grating, rusty gate noise. Hardly melodious, but lovely hens.
tom123
Girl, Here is my little fizz at about 20 weeks old... I agree, they always seemed to make a bit of a funny noise Good Luck Tom
Phosphorus
Oh thank you so much, feeling much more reasssured. I was so convinced she was a girl and then started to get niggling doubts The funny noise is only once a week or less anyway - she didn't do it at all this morning and she was a wee bit late being let out then Going for girl Love the piccies Thanks everyone. laurmurf
Basil has been crowing since he was 6 weeks old and i was told by an Araucana breeder that the boys are noisy and young. I'd say a girl too - congratulations!
Phosphorus
Basil has been crowing since he was 6 weeks old and i was told by an Araucana breeder that the boys are noisy and young. I'd say a girl too - congratulations! Funnily enough her brother Ben Korma started to crow at around that stage too. I had no doubt at all that he was a boy from very early on. Lily will keep her name then (although for some strange reason I am taking to calling her Lily Savage - mainly the hair do - maybe she could think she has a bit of boy in her!) Snowy
For what it's worth, she looks and sounds just like the araucana hen that I had - scatty as anything, but very friendly once in lay Mine also made a funny rasping noise, not melodious at all!
