causes of feather loss

i was out with the girls earlier and noticed tiggywinkle has a little bald patch under her ear/ top of her neck.... its about the size of a 10p. no bald patches anywhere else the other chooks are fine.... ive looked for mites etc and nothing. but am still a little concerned?! what are the other causes? i know they mault but i was told they doint until their second year?!

my two year olds are having a moulterama. The red hen is really patchy and the run looks like a fox attack today. Eddie (now known as little bald eddie) just moulted all over her head, bless her.

 

I'm told that sometimes newbies moult - but I think it's more likely to be the two year olds!

One of my two hens seems to be losing feathers all the way round the top of her neck too. I posted on here about a week ago and the general consensus was that it was the start of a moult (she is about 9 months old) .

 

I have never witnessed any pecking so I think it may well be a moult. I have noticed that there are the first signs of baldness appearing at the base of her tail feathers too.

 

Terrible timing just as it is getting colder... I will have to get her a little scarf!
