Hi,

 

I was wondering if anyone is good at telling what the tell tale signs of male/female of a polish chicken, we have them a day old tooday - just like the little yellow easter chicks.

Was wondering what sort of time we could tell if they are boy or girl...hope it wont be as tedious as sexing silkies we have!

Im not too sure, but i think you can only sex them properly if one starts crowing or laying eggs

Chris - they are quite difficult. The most reliable way is to wait till they crow at about 12/16 weeks!

 

However, I have recently found that the males seem to develop wattles at 7-8 weeks, much earlier than the females. Males also tend to be more upright and "bolder". The "hair" test didn't work for me - 2 out of 3 wrong -twice!
