Chicken Shirl
I read somewhere that the colour of a hens eggs is determined by the colour of their ears.... Is this true?.... One of this years hatchlings (Not sure if this is the correct word) Amelia has blue green ears they are a very pretty colour. Will we get blue eggs do you think? Chicken Shirl
Thank you both. My hens are a mish mash of all sorts of breeds so I will just have to wait a few weeks to see what she produces. Interesting about the silkies though. Her mother has a big tuft of feathers on her head. Lovely girl.
The Dogmother
If she has a crest and blue ears then she's likely to have some araucana in her and will probbaly lay blue-ish green eggs.
Chicken Shirl
The hen in question has no crest but has blue ears. Her mum has a crest and lays off white eggs. I could get lucky I'll just have to wait and see. Hope you are having a good day out there.
dippy bird
Hi Shirl, I read that as well.My sweetie has white ears and she lays creamy eggs, whereas all the rest have brown ears and thus all lay brown eggs (when they can be bothered..) Weather is horrible over here! Windy, cold and wet

Windy, cold and wet Hi Dippy, That's hens for you.... You spoil them to death give them all sorts of treats and what do they do.... Nothing!! What great entertainment they are though. How's it going with the intro's. Been thinking positive thoughts for you. I've been reading about visualisation! Just visualise them all together being lovely and tranquil, get the picture in your mind and everything will be fine. (Hope you don't think I am completely mad now) Not that good over here today either, grey and cloudy. Hens are loving it. I haven't seen them since they were fed at 8.30. they have been down the bottom of the garden finding all sorts of delicious things to eat in the leaves. Dust bathing and generaly having fun. I lied when I said I hadn't seen them, of course I had to check they were all ok as it was so quiet. Then spent about an hour just watching. As you do. When I should have been ironing. Hate that ironing business. Hope the weather cheers up for you over there. x .
coco
I have a silkie cross araucana and she lays blue eggs. She also has blue ears. I have another silkie cross with blue ears but she hasn't started to lay yet. It will be interesting to see what colour eggs she does lay. TAJ
I have two with white ears - one lays white eggs the other plays blue eggs - I think Cream Legbars should lay blue eggs, but do not have coloured ears? Tracy
