MadMitch
Teagan has been poorly and spent yesterday at the vets. She has been very crafty and not shown any signs of illness whatsoever, (not that I can ever catch her to check her over anyway). She was doing a wierd wiggly thing with her neck and for once was a bit quiet and I actually managed to get hold of her and found a huge impacted crop. Off to the vets we went as it was too solid to attempt to flush and fortunately it was the day when the exotic bird vet was there so he opened it up and emtied it out for her. He was well impressed by the amount of grass and meal worms she had gathered and nearly puked with the smell. She is recovering at the moment, spent last night in the study and is not enjoying being penned in by herself. She's also being stuborn and only eating rice and youghurt. Hopefully she will start to pick up a bit soon.she has some nice tablets to take which I have to insert into sweetcorn to trick her into eating them. Any other suggestions for food I can try her with appreciated. So far she is refusing porridge, pellets banana, and egg.
legend21
Lucky for you that the exoctic vet was around. What about tuna, mine love tuna, they also love a bit of mashed potato Jackie
C&T
Mix the yoghurt with Porridge oats? Mine love that - although they don't get it very often! They also love porridge topped with yoghurt even more then just porridge. Perhaps a way to get her to try some porridge??
MadMitch
Thanks for the suggestions, she is eating a bit of tuna at the moment, though she eyed me suspiciously when I put it in and played around with it for a while first. sparkysmum
Sorry to hear about Teagan, but what luck that an avian vet was on hand. My ladies would never pass a grape by. Fingers crossed for your lady.
Chicken Shirl
Live mealworms were the only thing one of mine would eat, oh, and butter with crushed garlic off my finger. Hope she makes a full recovery.
Jools
Soft, nutritious food, little and often. My first cockerel went through the same operation for an impacted crop. Definitely avoid what caused the blockage in the first place lol.
MadMitch
Thanks for all your advice, Teagan is on the mend now and is eating most things, with the exception of normal chicken food.
