I assume you only have sons to be seeing this in such a one sided way?

There is more to the forces than the physical stuff, & women excel in many areas. They are vital to the forces, all of them, & Cadets is a great stepping stone for boys & girls.

The forces thrive on there being a large mixture of all sorts of people working together, not just big beefy men....

My daughters have female friends who want to join the Navy because of Sea Cadets, & good for them.

As for Brownies being disbanded, well you would have to disband Scouts & Cubs too

Cubs & Scouts are a great place for 'boys to be boys', but Cadets should be open to both sexes so that they both benefit from it & get a taste of whichever service interests them.

HI

I knew this comment may provoke such a response, that is my view and may not be everyones however there are people that are reading this that I know will agree with me, as I remember when the girls joined boys couldnt be boys anymore. I'm afraid to say i can't honestly see how spending time in a situation with girls prevents boys being boys. All it does is prevent the outdated notion that the other sex is strange and unpleasent and promotes the idea that your sex doesn't really matter

I dont think its an unfair comment at all, and there are jobs for females that men cant do in lots of walks of life & vice versa. Fact strength wise there are jobs women just cannot do physically and unfortunately due to political correctness gone mad I am afraid the opportunities have to be offered to women and I know of work areas where the men have carried the women, as they are physically incapable. But there are roles that men also cannot do too. I spent a lot of time living on air force bases and both Army and Air cadet kids who thoroughly enjoyed it(with cropped hair) & with girls(yes worrying about their tights).I quite agree that if somone is physically not capable of doing a job they shouldn't however i have met many women who were as physically capable as many men and as such it should be judged not on sex but on ability . Incidently if you suggested to my air cadet friend she spent more time worrying about her tights than the guys did about their trousers you'd probably find her in hysterical laughter her only care with appearence is whether or not she is forfilling her regs

This is absolutely not a sexist view at all , we still have rainbow, brownies, beavers etc so perhaps they should be disbanded too! Most of which as far as i am away now except members of both sexes

Unfortunately these days due to political correctness there is no freedom of speech anymore in case someone gets offended or feelings now get hurt. I'm sure that everyone here is more than willing to allow you to state your views however if you do state them you must accept that other will aswell and that some people will get hurt and state that they are hurt.

So if the lad wants to be in the air cadets cut the hair off the air cadets exists to give the lad or lass a taste of the RAF will be like if they choose this career path or just fun. Same with all the other cadets. I am sure that there are many other things that the air cadets are designed to do such offer oppotunities to those who might otherwise not have them. To restrict such a well structured and honerable organsation to simply giving kids a taste of RAf life seems to limit what they can do a little too much and woman do work in the RAF should they not receve some taste of what it is like aswell

Now then back on topic. It seems a bit odd for them to have accepted him with the hair and then to suddenly decide he has to cut it. However it sounds like he is going to have to do it. From his own point of view it is sad and a pain that he belives he is going to be teased such things are always very unpleasent and undermining however he is hopefully imaginaning the worst case and it will be better than he expects

Hi

I am definitely all female and the new red arrow pilot is a female too, I was one of 3 girls, my maternal side all women too(my father only male as I grew up) & yes I have 2 sons.

I greatly miss having doors opened for me too these days and get cross when I see men not giving up seats for pregnant ladies on buses(a thing of the past..but that is equality isnt it)?

Anyway I still think the hair should come off :)

The airline I work for has rules re appearance - though you wouldn't believe it looking at me at 5am for a Paris flight :wink:

The uniform wearer's standard handbook is a thrilling read if ever you can't get to sleep.

I am not saying it is right that he has to cut his hair, but 'them are the rules'.

Right, back on topic or this will be locked.
