Broody devil pekin cross with sixth sense?

Recommended Posts

So Treacle has been broody for about three weeks now....doing her best evil pancake impression and generally being a stroppy little minx.

Before broodiness Treacle was the nicest chook of the bunch and would jump about on my lap on the look out for stray corn.

I have tried the broody cage with NO success

Collecting the other girls eggs from under her was becoming scary job so I purchased a couple of dummy eggs thinking she will sit on those and ignore the fresh eggs....wrong!

She kicks out the dummies and sits on the fresh

Now the dummy eggs get warm like fresh when she sits on them so how does she know!?

Yea, it is blooming nippy here this morning so a dunk is out of the question.

Don`t want to shut the cube during the day whilst I am at work as the other five are still laying....

She is up and about at the moment.....havinf a mega dustbath under the hedge so maybe all it took was a post and a moan on here

I'm having the same problem with Peri

When the others had laid yesterday I locked the cube door, I have never seen her get so stressed and angry, she started pecking other girls and going crazy

She has always been such a sweetie and has always loved a cuddle, but I don't know who she is now, she's like a different chicken :(

Phil said she's no different to any other hormonal female - evil and high maintenance. Guess who's making his own tea tonight

:lol::lol: Some men just don't know when to keep quiet do they

Well you know this often happens to me...get onto Omlet & the situation sorts itself miraculously.......don't tell us that she's still "unbroody" later though, little minx will have reverted overnight :anxious:

:pray: she stays a nice chook......it's much easier to break broodiness if you have them in with non-layers I've found, though not an option for you :(

She is still up and about!

The big girls seem to have decided to give up on the egg laying lark so I could pop her in there but that could be baptism by fire!

 she stays unbroody :D

When my Dorking was broody I had to put on leather guanlets to get the eggs without being pecked or the move her. I would lift her out the egg port door and put her in the garden (with food & water), leaving the other girls in the cube & run to happily lay. A few days of being isolated and she stopped it.

Treacle the broody devil pekins is broody no more.....I am told by OH that she is currently inside a pumpkin....eating it inside out! :D:dance:

However....he also tells me that he has turfed Pip, mini silkie, out of the nesting box three times already this morning
