Jools
That's one of the reasons they're so successful tbh. You just have to persevere and keep setting the trap until they get not so lucky. One thing I've found works is to have the trap out there, but not to set it initially, just to bait it with something they can't carry away - jam, peanut butter that kind of thing. Then after a few nights, fool them by actually setting it. Sometimes it even works!!
CluckyBucks
Yeah, im going for the nutella option tonight If that fails, ive bought some poison from wilkos and im going to bait all the holes with it. Old Speckled Hen
I'd love to know just how they manage to clear peanut butter without setting off the trap. Let's hope you get him. Hubby and I are shortly moving the coop and run into a corner of our neighbour's field. I dread to think what manner of tunneling we are going to find when the slabs come up

Chucky Mama
I have just found that we have one in the compost again I am a real rat phobic, I hate them! I tried the trap optiona and hate to say that the rat ignored it but I caught 2 birds . Tried putting it under something to stop the birds getting it and caught a shrew . I now use a rat bait box as OH does not have the time at the moment to camp out with an air rifle which was the best method last time. Any tips on the best bait to use? I used Diphenadione last time but it just seemed to produce an obsese rat
