cocktail_chick
We collected 2 adorable little partridge bantams on Sunday who are fabulously happy in their new purple Eglu cube however whilst they happily fly down the steps in the morning they don't at night and have to be lifted to bed. What can I do to encourage them to jump up to the bottom step which I must admit is very high off the ground for them? Any help or advice on this subject and any aspect of looking after them would be hugely appreciated.
Plum
Why not put a brick or log to give them a start till they get the hang of it. We'll need pictures of course.
cocktail_chick
Thank you Plum , a friend suggested that idea today too, will put one in their house tomorrow. When it gets dark do they just take themselves to bed, that's if they can get on the ladder!!? Will organise pictures shortly, they're just getting used to us and vis-a-versa. Scramble & Egg = partridge bantums Miss Arnold & Miss Bennett = buff bantums (arriving this weekend) Suede, Hunter and Beluga = 2 chocolate and 1 black labradors Fanstastic Mr Fox = a cat who thinks he's a dog and looks like a fox! Karen & co.
We resorted to a ramp over the top of the ladder that OH made for my girls with a steps on as my ex battery girls couldn't manage the cube ladder all the girls love using the ramp though Karen x
cocktail_chick
I have a feeling that my little girls are going to need the same type of thing, can I borrow OH! They're so wee and their feet tiny I can't imagine them ever being able to jump up the ladder. Will go in search of someone to make me a ramp I think! Patricia W
I put a bench in front of mine- the back is just the right height for them to walk into the cube! But I don't have a run. Tricia

jimnpaula
You can just see my cube ramp here and if you click the pic you can expand it. Keep scrolling through the pics to see more views. The wood is just pallet wood, nothing fancy. P
cocktail_chick
Thank you for the photo link, have checked it out and it all makes sense. What's the dangly ball thing?! Do they use the feeding nipples (can't think of a better way of describing them at this time of night!) on the water container? I find that concept rather curious, thought that sort of device applied to guinea pigs etc?
jimnpaula
The dangly ball thing is a food cage, you stuff leaves, apple etc through the open quarter at the top and they (supposedly - mine haven't twigged this yet) peck through the bars to get the food out. As for the superglug - yes, they knew how to use that, they must have had something similar when they were 'inside', and I too thought it was a bit odd but I've only kept rats/piggies/ferrets before - these are my first birds. They do prefer the normal glug I bought but if there's no room at it, or it's run low they use the superglug. P

cocktail_chick
So excited, girls now have smart little ramp up to their boudoir, a trail of little apple pieces lining their path - I've been popping in and out to see if they're using it but not signs yet, fingers crossed!
