Griffin
Chris Packham was ranting in the Mail the other day about fluffy things getting priority with sympathy when really it was out of order to use that many insects for entertainment. I agree with him. I agree with him too. I've always fancied the pants off him How can the RSPCA not have a problem with all those insects being killed but will prosecute over a rat? What makes the rat any more special or important than a bug? And when no doubt thousands if not millions of rats considered vermin will be killed daily throughout Australia and the rest of the world, most painfully with poison, what makes this rat any different? It's end was quick and it's body not wasted. I'll be interested in what arguments the RSPCA have in court. I read they've claimed the rat was tame, well so are my meat boys in the garden, should I not eat them?
Rhapsody
I would like to see the RSPCA spending a little more time at the coalface and a bit less persuing high profile publicity. When I rang them many years ago and asked what I should do with an injured baby squirrel the answer was "Put it in a sack and bash its filthy brain out against your garden wall dear." presumably if I had then eaten it they would have taken me to court Seriously, this isnt what people donate to the RSPCA for, get your backsides away from the press and do something about puppy farming, horse tethering, and the miserable lives of factory farmed animals. A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I hate the RSPCA. They have never been there when I have needed advice or help with animals in trouble. They can take a running jump. Squirrel bashing indeed. Maybe kill it if necessary, but bashing it against a wall's not quick is it?!
Valkyrie
OH reckons the RSPCA just did it for publicity - thing is whenever they do something like this it just makes them look really stupid. Like um, don't they inspect farms and such for cruelty and ignore what they find? RSPCA friendly farms don't exactly meet our high standards of welfare do they (in some farms that is - some are good but we only remember the bad ones).
