Snowy
We had a real Eureka! moment with Candy today, very boring but I just want to sing her praises a bit! We have been able to let her off the lead pretty much from day 1 (started in an enclosed field to see how she was first) as she would come back if we managed to get her attention and she could see that we were walking away from her. It would still take a few calls if she had found something particularly interesting though. I've been working on this by calling her back regularly on walks, not letting her get too distracted by her surroundings and making big fuss of her on her return. She won't eat even the tastiest of treats when we are out as she is so field minded she is oblivious to food. When she did come back she would race up to us, then past us and dance around just out of reach, eventually coming close enough to be touched. But today we were walking alongside a big hedge and it was very foggy. I suddenly realised that I couldn't see or hear her, so I called. She came galloping up the track directly in front of me at a pace that I just knew was going to take her straight past me again. At the last minute she slammed the anchors on, skidded to a halt and landed with her bum firmly planted on my boots, looking up at me with her tongue lolling out and a big spaniel grin on her face. It was quite emotional! She continued to do it every time after that - perfect recall, every time, even when she flushed some birds out of the hedge (which normally triggers selective hearing) she came straight back to me. She has been a lovely dog from day 1 of being with us, but has remained a bit aloof and wary. She also cowers if she thinks she has done something wrong It's just so rewarding seeing her gradually blossoming and regaining her confidence and spring! Guest
I know that feeling, we've also got a different dog these days! Wonderful to see the positive changes a loving home makes on a rescue dog, well done!
xChicken04x
Awww how wonderfull, it's so nice to see them choose you over something a lot more fun . Poet, can I just ask where you got your Molly from? We are on the hunt for another dog and I remember you rescued Molly, but can't remember where from? . I've trawled through all the local rescue sites, but I'm stuggling to find anything suitable.

The Dogmother
That's brilliant news Snowy Ruby is much better now, but she's still young and her recall can be selective at times. Depends on what she's focussed on at the time.
