jjmack
Just out of interest really. I am hopefully getting my 3 on sunday. We have a smallish garden probably 8 m by 20 m and I know there is enough room in it. We are surrounded by neighbours but the run is at the furthest point from any neighbour. i supppose i am just getting the jitters that the garden is too small and neighbours too close etc etc. Husband not keen at all but I am sure he will come round. Any one got chooks in a really small garden very close to neighbours just to put my mind at rest!
Falkor
There was a thread on this earlier in the year...people were posting pics too!
dippy bird
My garden (or whats left of it) isn't very big, and we are totally surrounded by neighbours. As the chickens don't make a great deal of noise apart from when they are announcing that they are laying, the neighbours don't even know they are there, apart from when they have escaped into their gardens . We have 9 chickens,so I wouldn't worry too much if I was you. Good luck and Happy hen keeping!! Your hubby will soon fall in love with them. It's impossible not to! Space Chick
8m by 20m is a decent sized garden IMHO, you could have loads of chickens in there!!! My garden is approx 10m by 12m and I have a large WIR, 12 girls and plenty of room for veggies

Falkor
Thanks for the link to the other thread it makes me feel much better. the pics are great and show that actually my garden is not small and the houses surrounding us are plenty of distance away! Bring on sunday! You are welcome...the other thing you could do is see if there is anyone nearby with chooks in their garden and have a look at their set up. There is a thread in the Eglus and Cubes section listing people that are happy for pre-arranged visitors Do you have your essential chook keeping items ready for Sunday? - Camera, big coat, flask of hot tea to keep you warm while you chook watch Most OH's come round in the end and mine is often caught chatting with the girls when he thinks I am not watching Em x
jjmack
I'm thinking about putting the camping stove down there permanently so that I can brew on demand!
lauragale
This photo shows that I just have a yard, not even a garden. This was the day my Eglu arrived!!! It was a great day! I have 3 very happy chickens who are quite content scratching around my pots in the fallen leaves. They are occasionally allowed into the front garden when i'm out there, and they are also taken in the cat basket round to my mom and dad's big garden for the afternoon sometimes - they are quite spoilt. Their run is right next to my neighbour's house. I was initially worried about noise and smell, but neither have been a problem. It's great watching them from the kitchen window - even makes washing-up a pleasure! Good luck with yours - just go for it! docsquid
Our garden isn't very large, and is an odd shape as we are a corner house and have a large double garage-workshop in part of the garden. Still room for chickens though
Guest
very compact and bijou Laura, have you got a recent pic with your girls in situ? this is ours, i thought it was small til I saw some of the other photos. We only have a small 2 bed end town house (as redrow call them) but compared with the size of the house, I think we were lucky with the size of the garden. This picture is taken from the end of the garden which is fenced off to make a bit of a veg garden... We have space at the side of the house so the cube, run and eglu are there, it doesn't impact on the garden at all really. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3563850 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2912479 this one look from the house to the end of the garden http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3412247 by the way, we are surrounded by neighbours and never had an issue. lauragale
Hi Poet Here are Alice, Carol and Gertrude - they are very much urban chickens as they live only a couple of miles from Birmingham city centre. I couldn't see your photos - i think i'm the only person who does not use Facebook!

sjp
your's sounds about the same size as mine a 1930's ex-council house I've got 5 ands it's plenty big enough for them. they do have full access when they're out so they haven't over worked one area
Gelbel
This photo shows that I just have a yard, not even a garden. This was the day my Eglu arrived!!! It was a great day! Laura - thanks for you photo. I don't have a eglu but a wooden coop with integrated covered run. I have always wondered at the size/height of the Eglu run as the images of the dimensions don't mean much to me. Your photo brings it to life. I am thinking of mixing my run with a Elgu Go or cube (I don't want the living quarters at floor level) and have ummed and ahhed about using the Eglu run as an extension to mine. My garden is not that big - the main area is about 18' x 24'. But it is sort of L-shaped as the 18' extends to 27' to give me an area of about 9' x 8' at the end of the garage where the coop and covered run is.........if that makes sense at all. That little area used to be my secret Mediterranean garden but now the girls are there they are tucked away from the worst of the weather as they are protected on three sides. Tulip
My garden is only 4m x 8m, we have a 4x1 WIR containing 5 hens and a serama (OH is going to build a mini-run in the corner of the garden for Keema and a couple of girlfriends). Ooh I've found a pic.... I'm taking the pic from the patio with my back to the gate and the house to my left. The BnQ shed-thingy on the right is against the back fence. I have a little decking and a hanging pod-chair and a bistro set, so it's quite a busy garden! The cube is now on the side of the run to make space for the bantam run. Didn't hubby do well? Mmmm, look at that grass... it's all muddy now
