Guest
I'm doing my christmas hampers and I've been asked to make some for people at work who saw a few I made last year and were keen to give them as gifts. I thought it would be nice to do them in little gift bags and I ordered some small jute bags. Now they didn't arrive on next day delivery so I phoned and they said they were out of stock till the midle of December and they would send me a refund. An hour later, when I was busy trying to get James his tea, make him do his homework, walk the dog and the 101 other things I'm generally doing they called back and said they would send me the next size up at no extra charge so I said Yes cos I thought that would save me all the hassle of finding another supplier. They arrived today and they are HUGE compared to the four jars and a few biccies that are going in them. I might offer to put some advocaat in them too although it would just be a small bottle. My plan was to stencil a christmas image on the bag - put a couple of the raffia, orange, cinammon combos on and some little hats on a couple of the jars, the leaflet explains the contents. How do we feel about the bags though - the gift seems a little bit swamped in them but then it is nice to have a decent sized bag as part of the gift. The bags ended up costing about £1.50 each and I know that any others I get will end up costing more.
Guest
hmmm, could you tie the bag in the middle with rafia instead? does that make sense? or is the material too thick to do that? you could always pack it out with some straw or shredded paper. Guest
The bag is too thick to tie - its one of those Jute bags with a plasticy inside and ropey handles. I'm not sure about padding it either - staw and shredded paper are just too messy - I have some tissue paper but only a little and I don't want to increase my cost buying more. Guest
have you got any cellophane? the stuff florists wrap bouquets in? You could do something like this... and then just put it in the bag?
Guest
apart from that you could try folding the top of the bag over and tieing it down with raffia.
Guest
in our local Ikea they provide tissue paper and brown paper near the door for you to wrap things in. I, erm, pinched some tissue paper last time I was in No that I'm suggesting you should do the same of course!

Guest
that's a shame, you're welcome anyway.
BeckyBoo
If you stencilled a chicken on there or a christmas motif or something then you could put your gifts in as they are - that way people get a bag as a gift too! You could always spray a load of pine cones gold or silver and scent them then pop them in there to bulk it up if you wanted but I think they'd be fine. Be a shame to have to get rid of them, then you're back to square one again BeckyBoo
Seagazer
Wouldn't people just be happy to get a bag with goodies in? I would be Especially as we're all supposed to do without plastic bags. If it was me I wouldn't be at all upset with receiving it.

Mrs Frugal
have you got any cellophane? the stuff florists wrap bouquets in? You could do something like this... and then just put it in the bag? I think that's a super suggestion, Poet, and I'd be delighted to have my present presented that way then the bag, as others have suggested, is also a nice useable gift. Cellophane is cheap enough, goes a long way and looks great.
Reikiranf
Do you have any wide ribbon? How about folding the bag over and securing it with a nice big bow around the bag or I think that packing the bag with Rafia as Poet suggested would be nice unless it's too expensive in which case I'm with Seagazer and think that anyone would be delighted to get two presents in one, your lovely homemade goodies and a nice bag into the bargain!
