I am buying some today,to make some little fingerless mitts

Haven't knitted for many years & I have a querey about the yarn I need to buy - it says Chunky Worsted, but I don't recall ever seeing anything called that before.

Its a American set of instructions,so I wondered if that is an American name & if so,is there a UK alternative?

i would go for a chunky yarn think worsted is just an american term not sure for what!

Worsted usually means sort of left over. Just buy some chunky wool that's soft & lovely colours.

Worsted relates to the way the wool is spun - the fibres lie parallel to each other, and it can be any weight or type of yarn. You can get pure wool or acrylic worsteds. And it was developed in Norfolk

I spent a lot of my childhood near Worstead and have seen it spun and woven into cloth. Very clever.

I asked in John Lewis & they pointed me in the direction of a nice chunky Aran, which I have bought in a teal shade

Hope so - size 9 I think - the John Lewis knitting expert lady said they would be fine anyhow
