Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have one silkie that i think is a boy because its starting to grow the red bit nder its beak which im surprised at because i didnt think silkie grew the red bit :S also have a look at its face - is the redness being pecked at?

This one is my frizzle chamois poland, can anyone tell if its a boy or a girl?

Silkie is def a boy

Those Polands are Chamois and will remain so, they are not gold laced

This is a gold laced chick

surely thats a black and gold laced? my breeder crossed a black and gold with normal chamois and it then resulting in a gold laced chamois :S

i dno, breeding genetics mind boggles me - btw was that picture your black and gold laced chicken?

Sadly poultry genetics is not like mixing paint!

If it was we would all have chocolate orpingtons :D

Gold laced is gold lacing on a black background, there is no such thng as a gold laced Chamois

I dont know what the genetics are of the cross either, possibly the Chamois is the stronger colour genetically or the cross would have resulted in a mix of chicks (Chamois, gold laced and possibly a plain colour like black) and you just happened to get Chamois chicks - I honestly dont know

The chamois colour is buff laced on a creamy background - thats what you have and very nice they are too, much more sought after than the gold laced so be very pleased with them, they are very nice birds

oh i see - yes they are probably the most friendy birds i have ever met - close bond with them - funny story just the other day i was clenaing out their coop and the frizzle poland jumped onto the back of my leg as i lent over so i picked him up and put him on the floor again and so he jumped onto the roof of the nesting box and up onto the ledge of the coop and sat there watching me - also whenever i walk in the pen he always runs forward and if i put my arm out jumps onto it :D

I recomend getting some!
