prof
hi, ive only had chucks for a month and was wondering whether i should be dusting bedding & nesting area with red mite powder and lice powder as a preventative measure? i got 2 new orps on sat and am keen to make sure they dont bring and unwanted nasties to pumpkin and bungee . if i do dust bedding etc do i need to withdraw the eggs? thanks

Redwing
I use DE powder in teh nest box and on the birds I find it more effective than red mite powder (have had a break out or three of red mites )
Ain't Nobody Here
I sprinkle red mite powder in the nestbox and use an old paintbrush to dust Diatom round the edges and cracks in the eglu. No need to withdraw eggs .

chick wiggle
Yep, I do too, red mite powder in the nest box, in the bedding and on the birds. I use a dustpan and brush brush (if you follow me ) to dip in the diatom and brush it all over the cube and into all the nooks and crannys
Christian
Going through far too much red mote powder as i love the smell I use it in the nest box, roosting bar ends and dust bath.
C&T
Fred won't lay unless there is red mite powder in the nest box. She would prefer to run around the garden making an absolute racket, and checking out under plants etc as potential nesting sites rather than lay in an eglu with no red mite powder... Daft thing!! Yes I agree with this I mix it in with the hemcore and mine seem to love the smell(so do I as well) I think at least their butts have had a good dust too indie
