Ophelia
Mysmallest hen didn't come out of the coop this morning. She stayed sleeping and let me pick her up easily. Her comb is very cold. I have brought her inside and wrapped her in a towel. I have offered her grapes but she won't take them. What doI do/
Tutti Frutti
Exactly what you're doing - keeping her warm and trying to feed her. You say she's your smallest so could be underweight... so my first reaction is to give her really tasty high energy/high protein foods like mealworms, if she won't take grapes (plus grapes will fill her up without fattening her up). Then I'd call the vet if she doesn't eat soon Sorry I can't help much more. I hope others will give you better advice soon. Good luck, I've got my fingers crossed for you both. Plum
I'd give her a good look all over as well if you haven't. So look at her nostrils, put your ear to her back and listen to breathing, check her vent, is she straining that sort of stuff.
Ophelia
Thank you for your help. I have just been to the vets and he said she is very dehydrated with a high temperature. It looks like she has an infection and is a very bad way. Lots of tlc and a place by the fire for my little Beaker. I hope she pulls through. Plum
Good luck with the little one, was worth going promptly Grapes are a good way of getting some fluid into her.
Tutti Frutti
Fingers crossed here for you both. At least you know - so relieved you went to the vets, you're doing all you can.
Christian
Keeping her warm is important. It means that her body can concentrate on healing rather than staying warm. Add some honey to her water and make sure she is drinking plenty. Hope she is better soon

Ophelia
Sadly my little Beaker died at 4pm. I only had her for one month but at least she experienced life as a free range chicken.

chelsea
Aww, sorry to hear it . Take comfort from the fact that you gave her a chance to experience a world away from the cage.
Tutti Frutti
Oh poor Beaker, I am so sorry You tried so hard for her and gave her more life and more to live for in her last month than she'd ever known before she met you. A sad day Edited December 19, 2009 by Guest
