Any suggestions welcome. Thankyou, CluckyBucks xx xx
Ophelia
You could plant some thorny bushes such as blackberry or hawthorn.
Patricia W
Do you have a dog? Mine is very protective about the hens and barks at the slightest noise- too much sometimes! Tricia
Redwing
Well trellis on the top of fences makes them very wobbly to climb Those prickly strips made for the top of fences are a good idea Setting the coop and run out of sight would help, its dodgy neighbours right? if you put the coop and run against the fence nearest to them the coop would be less visible Personally I would always encourage security measures but if you go for the Fort Knox approach people will start thinking you have something valuable to take so you could do yourself a dis-service I think its worth staying alert but cut them some slack for now as it would appear that apart from being a bit dodgy they havent proved themselves to be theives Yes some pet hens have been stolen in the past but its the breeders that need to take full on security measures, pet thefts are much less common if you think about the number of people that keep pet chickens out there
madchickenlady
I agree with redwing. Those prikka strips are very good, and not only deter humans but also foxes/cats. You do have to display a warning, though. I use them on my gate, as it's the only way in to my garden that isn't protected in other ways. It makes me feel better
Guest
you haven't mentioned lighting, get a couple of motion sensitive spot lights/security lights. You can also get shed alarms that emit a high pitched noise if the circuit is broken. You could use them on your run door. I'd get an exterior waterproof one. madchickenlady
I agree about the electric fencing. If I was concerned about human interference, I would definitely use this. However, remember that you must display adequate warnings.
