Frozen Pipes, and again in 2010

Recommended Posts

:D we have a working shower and sink and wc. They thawed out early yesterday evening. I spent the day turning on the taps that still had running water every so often to keep the water flowing.

The cottage was so warm. All the storage heaters are on maximum anyway but I lit the woodburner and the coal fire in the morning and kept them in all day. Fan heaters were put in the shower room and the little WC for extra heat.

The outside temperature rose in the afternoon to 1c so that helped as well. As long as the temperature does not drop to -17c again I think we will be OK.

Glad you are sorted out - we were cold similar temperatures but thankfully no frozen anything - my new central heating is working a treat and apart from no flooring in kitchen and utility room till the man is not so busy to come and lay it we are fine here too - loads of snow - about 2 feet and an absolute nightmare to get to the chickens who will NOT come out for love or money!. Keep warm and hope nothing freezes again = the good thing about those vents is that the loft is cold and the snow stays on the roof and does not slide off - again insulating the house!

PS the worst bit of my day was going to elgin today - it was chaos and so so busy I could not believe - asda has no fuel as no deliveries and tesco was manic - I managed to top up (just in case) my car and get the shopping but wish I had not bothered to go in! Took me hours.

OH and I went to Inverness. Plenty of everything at the big Tesco there, it was very busy though. The centre was unusually quiet.

Temperature in Inverness was 5c, I had so many layers of clothes on it was uncomfortable in the shops. Back home it was 0c.

Outside now the snow is drip, drip, dripping :D I hope this is the end of this cold snap.

Glad you are defrosting - we are very slow here and the temp is just above freezing - If it is a slow thaw it will be better than a fast one - Tesco had loads of stuff but also loads of people - not going in to elgin again till after the festivities - bought my turkey in marks and spencers and its now in the freezer along with the sausages and bacon rolls!! and a big bag of potatoes which we ran out of last week and so did the local co-op!! Bought enough cat food to feed a cattery!!

LOL Are you home for xmas?

Thank you Christian -we are fine - like a good moan!! :D I think the borders and edinburgh were badly hit this last week after us and things were nasty for them down there as because they dont get it much it is more trouble - we are so used to it or shold be but we still complain! LOL - It thawed last night then snowed during the night a heavy shower then froze - the joys - my poor chickens wont come out and have been stuck in for over a week now! :(

There is nothing wrong with moaning about the weather. It's a British tradition :lol::lol:

Talking of frozen pipes, I always wrap the outside taps up, but didn't do it that thoroughly this year. One must have been dripping as we had a huge icicles down the wall

Now re-wrapped with old tea towels and a plastic bag over the top. Who needs to spend £10 on a tap cover??

I've just boiled the kettle & poured it over the outside taps ( hot & cold). Both were frozen, even though we wrap them up. So hubby has just ordered one of these to wrap round them..
