Idea for quick, cheap(ish) WIR. Includes pics!

Hey up

I love to see photos of peoples' runs, so i thought I'd show you what we've done!

I wanted to avoid wood to reduce red mite risk and keep maintenance to a minimum (lazy emoticon) . With that in might, I found this:-

http://www.ideas-4-pets.com/lucky-chicken-run-cl61598-10ftl-x-10ftw-x-6fth-rjl-p-1894.html

I bought the 'roof' cover too.

It's fab and I'm really pleased with it.

There is one draw-back! We had to build it around the Cube because it's was too big to get through the run door. The Cube also doesn't fit in it brilliantly well - we ended up taking the ladder off and the chickens now hop in and out using upturned plant pots. I am in the process of down-sizing to an original Eglu which WILL go in and out through the door and can be moved around more easily.

We used slabs for flooring, covered with Easibed. We spray all with citronella oil in water and that keeps the flies off a treat! The slabs get a jet wash twice a year and in between, we change the Easibed once a month and swill down with the hose pipe.

The hedge we've planted to 'disguise' all this is also the chickens outside area. It's surrounded with Omlet's chicken fencing and the girls can peck around in the earth without having to let them in the main part of the garden.

Maybe this post will give one or two folk some new inspiration! :D

Yes, I can get to the poo trays - I just wheel the Cube forwards and get in the back as normal. It's not a great fit though, is it? I'll come clean - I measured up wrong :oops::oops: And it became blatantly obvious as soon as we started to put the run together. So, I tried blagging it but the husband looked at me with that 'eyes raised to the sky' face thing that men do when women get it wrong  so I had to concede I'd "Ooops, word censored!"ed up!

Annnnnywaaaaay, it IS his fault! I wanted the Eglu in the first place and it was him that talked me into the Cube!

The Cube is too big for my two little Silkies. I had three hyrids as well but personal circumstances meant I had to re-home them. I don't plan to expand the flock more than one or two more, so the Eglu makes way more sense. It should be here on 7th Jan.

I'll dismantle the Cube and sell it either on here or on Ebay (if I have to - loathe Ebay though  ) So if anyone wants to buy a green Cube (minus the run) for £360.00 or there abouts, register your interest here!

When the Eglu arrives, I'll take some more pics and add them here.

Ahh, too late Poet! I've already ordered the new Eglu. Maybe I should have asked on here first and done a swap with you :(

If you are interested in a green Cube, I'll dismantle on either the 7th or 8th Jan, depending what time of day the new Eglu arrives. Then I'm planning on jetwashing the Cube to within a inch of it's life, ready for selling. I can deliver within a 20 mile radius of Stockport.

I only want the difference between the Eglu and the Cube (minus a run) for it, hence the £360 figure. I do have the run but I'm using the panels in the WIR and don't want to take them off because they're very handy.

I bought the Cube new from Omlet a year last May. It has plastic roosting bars. It's been jetwashed every tow to three months and a good soapy water wash in between. Of course, it has some marks on it from normal usage but other than that, it's in brilliant condition.

Have a think about it. I would rather sell to an Omlet forum user or to one of the many friends I've made on another forum (not a poultry forum but one with a poultry keeper's topic section). I'm dreading having to get involved with Ebay!

I'll even help put it back together again in it's new home - providing someone sticks a mug of strong coffee and a biscuit or three in my hand!
