Cheap table for your Eglu

Recommended Posts

It cost about £200 to build. It took a while because I'm no DIY expert but I got there in the end. I made lots of panels and then joined them all together. The roof is corrugated clear plastic from B&Q. I then treated the wood with preserver.

The bedding is Aubiose. I have used bark chippings and wood chippings in the past but Aubiose is the best because it stays clean and doesn't get muddy. It costs £8.50 for a 20 kilo bag and the run takes two bags. You get get it from equestrian places.

Here's another pic for you.

I have put the whole run on paving slabs. If you go to your household recycling centre you can often pick a load up for next to nothing.

I did leave a small patch of earth in the middle but it got so muddy and messy I laid slabs on that too. The chooks do a lot of freeranging in the garden so they can dig to their hearts' content in the borders!

thanks for the tip off, Boybeck

We shot over to Ikea in Leeds and got the table for £9.99! It's perfect! We also got some bench/perches (in their hallway section at Ikea) that will be good to get the monsters off the ground, but not too far.

Did you treat the wood with any preservative, by the way? We were wondering whether and what we should treat the wood on the table and perches with.
