Felting...

Recommended Posts

I've been naughty. Again. I have wanted to try felting for a Loooooong time and so, today, I've ordered a kit and book from HERE. In my defence ( :? ) I hope to use some of the wool for making felt embellishments for brooches and jewellery.

(do you think DH is going to accept that? )

Now I am impatient for it to arrive.

I am certain that others here do felting, so any hints tips and words of wisdom would be appreciated, as would photos of inspiring works you've created already. :D

I had a go with soap, water & bubble wrap. It was just ok. It didn't knit together very well, even after another soaping up. :? I tried needle felting, but kept ripping out the insides of my fingers with the barbed needles.

I'll stick to my knitting & crochet. You'll probably get better results than me, I've just given up with it. Feel a bit daft really.

Why do you feel 'daft' Crafty? If you give it a go and it doesnt work for you, surely thats better than always wanting to try something but never doing so? :D

Thanks for the warning about the barbs though, lol, must remember to wrap myself in finger tape before I start

Snowy, Do we have more than one Omletstock planned then? I must have missed that.

I have that book and I bought her starter kit (wool and bamboo mat), It is quite easy to follow and I have made a number of bags. Don't skimp on the wool though, my first bag didn't work too well because I was too stingy.

Have fun

Excuse me, but, there is something wrong with your post?

got it :!: There are no photos of the bags you've made

really, I would like to see some and I am sure others would too :D

I've got that book but haven't used it yet.

Soapy felting is easy and great fun. Messy but not too messy and very satisfying. We made basic pieces of felt at Omletina's. She can do superlative things with felt - both needley and wet felting. We all bowed to the Omletina loveliness and greatness at Omletstock I.

This is another inspiring site:

Hearting those monster bags. She does classes sometimes too. :D
