Anyone else got this problem?

 

I think it's because the run has been wet at times and we'd noticed that it effects the middle long toe mostly.

 

We've been catching them and prising off malteser size ball off run floor with a pair of pliers tried soaking them off, but no luck

 

I think hemcore doesn't help as it has lots of fibres in it.

 

Am worried about their little toes, the poor loves.

 

Any advice???

I stand my chooks in as hot water as I can safely put them in and let them stand for ten munutes or so then use a nail brush and cocktail stick to peel off the fibres and mud little by little, layer by layer, like candyfloss being made!

Soaking is probably the best thing, just slowly ease it off.

 

We had a turkey at the farm with a poo ball and tried soaking it off, in the end I think it pulled the nail off!

That's what I'm worried about!

Some of ours were like thst earlier in the year - we held them over a bowl of warm water and gently prised them off.

I soaked them off if they were bigger, that's why I have stopped using hemcore until it improves again.
