JB09
Both of my girls are currently going through a moult, looking quite unkempt but otherwise healthy and laying periodically! One of my girls is losing feathers from underneath and the other from her chest. How long does a moult generaly take from start to finish? I have added poultry tonic to their water (Its very red - looks like blood! ) and extra poultry spice. Does anyone have any extra remedies to help them get through their moult? Happy new year to all JB
Egluntyne
Extra protein in their diet will help, ie tuna (rinsed and dolphin friendly) mealworms, organic cat food, scrambled egg or some breeders pellets or unmedicated chick crumbs. Some of mine have just had a fairly major moult and it has taken 6 weeks for them to start looking respectable again.
Laura & CTB
My Cartier has been moulting since the end of October - she's got most of the new ones through now except for her tail - she has one feather left and it looks like a stick - very silly. She hasn't laid an egg though since she started her moult.
JB09
Thank you for the tips, since the moult one of the girls seems to be laying softies. Do you think his could be a result of the moult? With all this cold weather they are now being extra spoilt, hopefully this tlc will help them through their first moult...
