please help! any advice/ideas. orp to big 2 roost in eglu!

Recommended Posts

my black orp, big bird, is only young but has problems roosting in the (pink eglu):oops: . she stumbles about loads and will only roost on the edge of the nesting area, which is unsatisfactory as it is thin and curved which causes her to wobble :o her feet are soooooo big that i think she cant fit them round the (pink eglu) roosting bars as they are too close together :roll: she crashes about in the (pink eglu) , which is quite amusing :lol: but also unfair on her :( .

has anyone else had this problem?

any solutions?

thanks :D

The eglu isn`t the problem.....the Orp is!

I have three LF Orps and they are the the most clumsy, unelegant and dozy creatures I have ever encountered! Why people say they make good mums I am not sure as if my lot are anything to go by any chicks hatches would be splatted! :roll:

However along with my little Japanese ladies I have to say the Orps are my favourite chooks!

When my Orps were in the eglu it took a while for them to get used to the roosting bars. Although when they first arrived they were only ten weeks so they didn`t have roosting bars.

Providing she can fit through the eglu door and isn`t causing problems for the other chooks she bunks with I would just leave her to get on with it.....she will work out her own sense of equilibriam soon enough...I am sure.

If you want to see something funny and clumsy then you should pop over to mine of a morning when three orps literally fall over eachother as they desend the cube ladder! :lol:

ha ha :lol::lol::lol:

i would love to see the ladder moment palmer07 :lol::lol::lol:

big bird manages to get through the door and the other chucks (partridge orp, GNRPP ) dont seem to mind her crashing about :roll: the orps do have their own (orange eglu) but REFUSE to go in it no matter where it is :shock: it was the quickest intro ever....they free ranged for a day together then roosted(if you can call it that) in with GNR & PP and have been a flock ever since!

i will of course HAVE to get some more chucks who do like (orange eglu):wink::lol:

i hope she has finished growing though! the other orp, called clown(!) is smaller and not as clumsy yet........but then again she is still only a baby :roll:

ummmm! you could be right chelsea.....a bit like my cats! :lol::roll::lol:

its reassuring that its not just my chucks though :lol: i was wondering if i was just being a bad chuck mummy, and that i should just up size to a cube :? but it sounds like she will still behave stupidly no matter where she lives :D

I agree with the unladylike exit. Ours are further put out by escaping pekins who either barge past underneath the fluff or over the top. I can almost hear the tuts - the dirty looks that Apache gives are so funny - and then the little ones are well out of reach before she's thought of pecking them. They don't go in the eglu though - just the run.
