Mash feeding time

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Wondered if anyone would be interested in my home made slimline mash feeder. Easy to make out of any length of slim guttering. Makes a trough which can be wall mounted and removed easily for cleaning. Too slim and close to the wall for the girls to climb in and trample their food. Plenty space for them to line up and eat without squabbling. Just clips into place when needed.

I remove it when they're done, then take mash down for them in the tray next time, and just clip it onto the bracket. The girls have now learned where it goes, and line up in front of the bracket when I take their mash. (Well when I say line up, it's as near an orderly line as you could ever expect from a gang of chooks at mash time, but they're getting the idea!)

I worried about removing it and leaving the brackets sticking out for them to catch themselves on, but they're very close to the wall, aren't sharp and haven't caused any grief.

The brackets screw onto the side of the WIR

The girls, enjoying their supper. Their heads are pecking so fast, they've blurred the shot!

cool, :D but I thought that chooks should have access to food constantly???

mine get upset if they cannot get back to eat like every half hour ir so???

Mine would go ape!

This is just their evening mash, with grated veggies and goodies in. They have access to layers pellets all day - in a separate feeder. I find the gutter tray is better than a dish or bowl for one off 'quickly eaten' meals that they go nuts for, as they've more room to get to it as a group, without scratching it everywhere or walking in it.
