Should my brother get my mum a PC?Rant warning

Recommended Posts

My dad doesnt want to move with the times and thats up to him. I dont think you should push them as its more trouble than its worth. My uncle on the other hand would be on the internet tommorrow if mad aunt said yes. Hes jus biding his time. She does like the computer games thou  I like many on the forum are of the "sandwich generation" kids and elderly parent to keep an eye on from a distance. And when it goes pear shaped I'm the one haring 100 miles down the M1. i am an only child too. I'm sorry if anyone felt I was mocking the situation but I wasnt - i just think if its going to cause more trouble then forget it.

Well I haven't heard anymore apart from mum ringing to say she'll be home later this morning - and she didn't mention it either. She has never really shown an interest at all - although when they lived with us for several months before moving into their house dad loved playing solitaire on here! I might get a different side to the story when she comes back because with regard to my brother's bright ideas - she has a habit of agreeing just to keep the peace.

I have a feeling that by putting the ball in his court he might be miffed with me. Ah well he'll have to join that long list of other people I have upset!

This is what he is getting:

One computer

One printer/scanner/copier

One webcam

And this is the last bit which made my blood boil a little:

I'll leave it to you to set up the broadband with TalkTalk but they give you a free wireless router which is spiffy (although it means I need to get an adapter, but they are only about £30). Suggest doing this after I get the PC and mum learns the basics.

After I said we wouldn't be doing it. :wall::wall::wall:

But as he says after she learns the basics - well I figure we have plenty of time on our hands. Funny that we will have to jump through hoops, when it took him a year to set up a savings account for his daughter! And they have her name wrong and he can't be bothered to change it - and it's quite a normal easy name!

Bah blooming humbug. I'll give him spiffy alright!

Oh he reckons that "if she keeps it away from your kids" it won't get any virus problems. I am not happy about that reference - you should hear what OH has to say about that - or maybe not!

And it's on it's way to be delivered at her house. That will be so nice - it is only a small house She can only just squeeze 4 chairs downstairs and a tiny dining room table - there is no room for a huge computer. Why didn't he get a laptop which can slide away down the side. :wall::wall::wall:

Let him sort out any problems. I just hope your mum doesnt have any emails from Mr Ado (remember him from another thread) telling her shes coming in to money. I hope your brother has thought of that. Can I ask why she "needs" a printer. I no longer buy eldery reli's anything that needs "dusting" as my aunt says - i get them vouchers for their gardens or things they ask for. I think you brother will regret this but hope you dont get the fallout. sorry to be so negative.

Thanks you guys. It's the hottest topic in this household! The thing is mum will have the best computer out of all the family!:lol: LB says there is a 2 year in-house support thing. Well jolly good because this house won't be part of it. She won't phone them when she's stuck - that I do know (if she gets stuck because I bet she won't use it).8.gif

I've chatted to mum a couple of times since she was brought home on Saturday (knew she wouldn't be staying there long) and she hasn't mentioned it once - neither have I.

As I replied to his e-mail saying how nice, Murray is cross with me because he thinks I have confirmed that I will be setting up her broadband. I told Murray that I can turn a deaf ear just as well as my brother - because not once have I said "I will do that" in any mailing.

Well it's done now - mum can look forward to delivery in the near future. Breathe deep . . .

ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

I think she would have preferred the garden vouchers - or wild bird food things - but she is actually paying for her own computer - he is just playing with her money.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!
