Husqvarna Emerald or Bernette sewing machine?

Recommended Posts

After weeks of research and deliberating I have decided to get a Husqvarna Emerald 203. Unfortunately, I cannot find this machine anywhere local to me (can't travel far at the moment due to bad health) and wondered if anyone has any experience of this machine or Husqvarna in general.

I dream sewing machines at the moment :? and have gone through so many makes and models. It seems very hard to find an adjustable foot pressure!

The other possible contender is the Bernina Bernette 92c but have found some pretty neutral reviews on this.

Any views very welcome. Thank you.

Afraid I can't help you much either - I have 2 Janomes which are great (especially as my latest one has been fixed properly). But both makes of machines have been going rather a long time so can't be that bad. My quilt teacher loved her Bernina and I've met a fair few people who agree with her. Haven't met a Husqui owner yet.

Thanks Plum. I had contacted Hobkirks to check warranty terms as this is a very reasonable price :D . The only niggle is that you have to pay carriage to return it if there is a problem although they will send it back to you free of charge.

I have almost definately decided  and will get it from Hobkirks but it would be good to get some feedback or find it locally to see it in the flesh.

Did you get your machine yet? I would agree that it is best to see and try a machine before you buy. I bought a Husqvarna about five years ago from a local dealer, I went to get a Bernina or Bernette but he won me over onto the Husqs. The foot pedal with them is a bit different. It has a slow start, which I have got used to but that is not to everyone's taste. Also, my reverse button is on the right hand side of the machine, which is a slight pain because I am left handed. However, I think the Emeralds have them on the left.

Something I really like about my Husqvarna and that is you can wind a bobbin via the needle, without de-threading and it just seems easier and convenient. It is a lovely machine and very solid and reliable, the stitching is good. I am firmly of the opinion that it is better to save up to buy a good machine rather than go for one of the very cheap ones because I have been there and done that.

Hi Egzandra. No I haven't got a machine yet as I'm still trying to track the Husq locally :wall: The dealers in the South East do not seem to have heard of it and one even told me it had gone out of production over a year ago. Husqvarna have confirmed that this was not the case but were unable to help me as to finding one I could see and try. Although this is my preferred machine, I am a little nervous if I can't get local support.

I have ruled out the Bernette but have ruled in a Janome 6260QC now
