Lewis
I saw something on Jemima earlier which was red but I thought it was a bit big for a red mite, had a better look at there were a couple. Have just had a really good look at both of them and can't see it to get a photo! They're in a rabbit hutch while we build the WIR so not ideal ... Have red mite powdered the hutch and tried to do them, but because their feathers are double layered and so dense, its hard so I thought a liquid might be better Any recommendations for a liquid you can apply directly on the bird? Have searched and read a few bits on Johnsons and Xeno ...

tom123
I don't think ducks can get red mite May be wrong though!
Lavenders_Blue
You perhaps know this already but lice are a kind of orangey colour. So could it be lice? If so, I have found you need something chemical to get rid of them. I am just getting rid of a lice infestation on my hens and was recommended barrier louse powder by my local animal/pet store. I followed the instructions to the letter and dusted the girls twice, a week apart. Also sprinkled it all over their bedding. I checked them again a week later and they were crawling with lice more than before! So in my opinion the barrier powder is worse than useless. I'm now treating them with Johnson's anti-mite spray and it seems to be doing the trick
miller30
Hi i would be very surprised if it was redmite as i agree with tom i have never known a duck to have redmite and redmite are so small you would have had trouble seeing it could be lice i suppose could just be a stray bug. Lewis
I always thought they couldn't because they're always in the water ... have had another look and can't see anything but there were definately 2 of them on her head. Maybe stray bugs or lice then ... Thanks though
