shelley8179
I am ordering my WIR tonight and am thinking about using pond liner as we have wood chip at the moment and the girls are always filthy. I was just wondering how to use the pond liner do I staple it to the wooden frame of the WIR or does it just sit on top of it? Pictures would be great if anyone has got any. emchook
I cant answer the pond liner question .. but just to be nosey ..who have you ordered the WIR from ?
Lewis
I'd think have it under, as you would with slabs, but am not sure ... Just be careful when you clean up the woodchip (or aubiose/whatever you'll use with it) that you don't rip it
Cooks
I would be tempted to slab it and ditch the pond liner idea for the reason Lewis states above, i am sure you will rip it in time and then that will be so much more work for you. shelley8179
Ummmm lots to think about, but I have time to change my plans. I was thinking the pond liner would be very strong but I think slabs would be easier. Getting my run from http://www.cms-animal-housing.co.uk/ my run is going to be 4ft x 7ft and 5ft high its going to cost me £119 + £41 postage. shelley8179
I hope mine is a bit quicker, my OH goes away for 2 months in 3 weeks time and I wanted to get it up before he goes, fingers crossed.
atsw
Ummmm lots to think about, but I have time to change my plans. I was thinking the pond liner would be very strong but I think slabs would be easier. I'd say go for slabs. I did mine that way, it was all pretty straightforward, just make sure you put time and effort into the preparation of the soil base before you lay the slabs down. Pictures of me doing mine -> here. northstarred
Thanks to all you kind souls who have shared their pain and successes on building their WIRs! Incerdibly helpful in planning ours. I'm almost certainly now going for CMS as suggested on here (thank-you for the pointer) as they came back in about 10 mins with a qoute for me that seems very reasonable and on a Sunday too! One question though - the cost with a roof compared to without is £65 difference. What do you guys think - is this reasonable or shall I just get the run from them and get some of the PVC sheeting from Wickes? Size is 10ft x 6ft.. Thanks! PS Cannot cannot wait to get the girls all tucked up in a clean safe non-winter quagmire run!
Jennyhenny
Shelley8179, Just looked at the website, looks good which design did you go for? Jennyhenny
Jennyhenny
Northstarred, Is it a mesh roof or a waterproof one you had? Jennyhenny IGNORE ME, just seen the previous post, must have overlapped
shelley8179
I do like the idea of the paving slabs, but its doing it, it looks hard work, any tips atsw?

I'd do for the roof Is it the clear plastic sheeting? We spent nearly double that on sheeting (for 15x6), so seems like a good price to me Could always look at the price of buying it yourself first though. northstarred
Thanks!! Priced up it can be cheaper (looks to be cheaper) but to be honest I have no clue on the things like fixings and also overlaps seem to cause a fair few issues - me working it all out versus an expert.... - yep mind made up I think!! Saying that had also thought about a temp tarp over the mesh it comes with then sorting roof later but that's likely laziness talking! northstarred
I do like the idea of the paving slabs, but its doing it, it looks hard work, any tips atsw? I'll keep you updated on the progress with our slabs - haven't even started that yet but Wickes have some value type ones for shed bases that look ideal at the mo. Was planning on levelling soil, compacting and basing in sharp sand..hope that's what you meant!

The PVC roofing is between £6 ish to £8.50 a sheet and the fixings are nearly £14 for a big bag. Then there is the hassle of putting it on yourself. I would say that the £65 extra would be money well spent

Ordered the WIR tonight though woooohooooo! so I'd best get cracking asap or it'll be mudcity yet again. If I think on I'll take piccies at each stage and put timings on it and post them to help?? Sorry you're going to be without OH for 2 whole months though
