craftyhunnypie
How big are Polands? Thinking of hatching some for our new chicken enclosure we have planned. Are they bantam sized or bigger? How big are they in comparison to an Araucana? I also fancy some Appenzellers. Thanks, Emma.x
Redwing
There are two types, bantams and LF, the bantams are small, smaller than a pekin and slim, the LF are a bit taller than a pekin, smaller than a Silkie (does any of that make sense ) Appenzellers are about the same size as a hybrid but more lightly built
craftyhunnypie
Thankyou - I think I'll go for the LF sized ones then - they could all go together. Emma.x
Griffin
Just like in Silkies though, LF vary a lot in size. My Olive is LF but I've seen some much bigger than her, the breeder I get eggs from has a pair of Tolbunt LF Polands and they're twice the size of Olive. I'd highly recommend a visit to her place near Brackley, all the different colours of Polands under the sun there including chocolate Doris is bantam and absolutely tiny. I'm going to hatch some tiny friends for her later in the year. It's taken a long time for Olive to bond with her and as the pair of them will be spending all of the winter in the garage it'd be nice for the Poland flock to be a bit bigger.
