CluckyBucks
Hello, Rogina appears to be very quiet, not moving much and barely eating, her poos are nearly all white and her bum is wet. I picked her up (she sleeps in the house anyway) and her feet and comb were very cold. From what i can see, she had trouble sleeping but i still put her outside with the other girls to see if she'd liven up abit. Shes been stood in the same spot for near enough half an hour. This is the second time this has happened but before she snapped out of it within a few hours, this has been going on since 5.00 yeserday afternoon. Any suggestions as to what is wrong with her? xx xx
Tutti Frutti
Could be a number of things - egg bound or softie on the way, worms, sniffles, or something more serious - I'm no expert but my gut reaction is to bring her in from the cold, dry her bum with kitchen towel, put her somewhere warm, feed her (porridge or spaghetti and mealworms - treats to get her interested?), get some water in her and, if no improvement by say lunchtime, a trip to the vets, seeing as she was like this yesterday too Hope I haven't got it wrong - I'm sure someone with much better advice will be along soon. Hope she perks up soon
Christian
I agree with Tutti Frutti. Bring her indoors, pop her in a box with airholes and keep her somewhere warm and quiet - not too hot. Probably a soft shelled egg on the way as this can really take it out of them. Make sure she has access to water (mix some honey in to encourage her to drink) and some sloppy pellet porridge to eat if she wants to. Hope she is better soon. CluckyBucks
Rogina hasnt layed an egg for over a year, so i doubt its a softie Thanks for your help so far. xx xx
Tutti Frutti
try tomatoes too - zero nutritional value but good for liquid intake and they were irresistable to my poorly chook. Warm porridge with added corn might help warm your girl up too. Rogina hasnt layed an egg for over a year Is she very old? If so, might be old age... but if she's not, could it be egg peritonitis (sp and clutching at straws here)???? Sorry, not a lot of help I wish there was a fingers crossed emoticon! CluckyBucks
Good news- Rogina is absolutely fine she layed a deflated balloon looking thing (softie) last night and is back to normal now. I cant believe it, after one year of not laying she passes a softie Thankyou all so very much for your suggestions and support xx xx

MedusA
Very glad to hear she's back to normal. They are such a worry aren't they? Worse than children, because they can't tell you which bit hurts.
