Hey everyone

 

I need to write a report about climate change, but I think it's going to end up as an essay Any good ideas how to make it more report style? I have a feeling it's the first report I've written.

I'd start by googling "how to write a report"

I would imagine you would need to open with a paragraph explaining what the report/essay is about, then say something like you are going to provide evidence to support your findings. Then go into more depth using references/evidence (don't forget to quote your sources). Then finish with a conclusion/summation.

 

That's usually how academic essays are written.

On top of advice already given I'd suggest you ensure you split each section up with headings.

 

It's a good idea to do an outline of your report before you start then you have your headings ready to go and a good idea what you're going to be writing about.

I always go by the "Tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, tell them what you've told them" approach. I think a good introduction and good conclusion is vital in a report

I usually include an 'Executive Summary' at the beginning of any report I do - a brief summary of the whole report for those Execs too busy/bone idle to read the whole thing

We always had to write history essays but the one thing our teacher told us was that he did't want a report. So no sub-titles, headings or pictures.

 

So for a report I agree use headings.

Just finished a Business Studies report (How ill health and snow have affected the economy ) and they always tell us to use headings, because if anyone is reading a report, they'll go straight to what they want to know and won't want to read the whole thing.
