sunshinesupernova
Anyone seen these ? I saw a photo in the Marks and Spencer cupcakes book I got yesterday and decided I HAVE to have a go. I've spent this evening colouring sugarpaste and making sugar flowers.... I've been to the floristry wholesaler for an oasis ball, vase to suit it, florists wire and tape... etc there are loads of photos on google
Lesley
I had to go and look........ I like this one - I wonder how they're held in?......I'll have to go back and find out.......
chickencam
They are gorgeous, but I bet if I did it all the icing would slide off and my 'flowers' would wilt
Seagazer
Thats so gorgeous, I wouldn't want to eat it.
sunshinesupernova
stunning - aren't they ! They're held in with lollypop sticks or toothpicks. I'm dreadful at icing - I can slather it on - but I can't do anything clever like that with it. Instead, I made a little cardboard template and cut out flower shapes from coloured sugar paste. I've got some other stuff to use too.... We're going to see my mother-in-law on Sunday - so I'm going to make her one.... as a practise run ! A 6" ball needs 24 mini cupcakes / muffins. An 8" needs about double that. I'll see how the little one goes, then do a large one for next time I see my mum
Lesley
Yes, I looked a bit further and found out about the cocktail sticks. I found one picture where they had used an icing tube which is usually used for royal icing roses (I think - that's what it looks like) I have got a small tube for that but might look for a larger one. The next birthday coming up is my son's - I don't think he'd appreciate a cupcake bouquet I'll have to wait for May for a girly birthday. sunshinesupernova
thanks the vase looked really odd with nothing in it - so I had to do some extra pruning in the garden ! lol

emchook
sunshine-supernova I LOVE your blog. You are one talented lady ... I am especially in awe of your talent since you have little toddler "helping" ... [ I know how that feels ]
sunshinesupernova
lol - he does like to help. Oliver likes to copy everything. I was rolling out sugar paste icing to make those flowers - and he had to have a shot doing the same on a bread board on the lounge floor. I have a little chef in the making at 16 months ! It became a speciality of my little one [ I had to put a lock on the outside of the door in the end ! ] I guess its all memories in the making

chickencam
It's one thing cleaning the toilet with loo roll, it is quite another when your toddler decides to clean the bathroom with the toilet brush, which my DS did

Lesley
I was going to make a bouquet for my sister's birthday but was running out of time......so I made this instead..... I added small fresh bay leaves in the gaps but forgot to take a photo of it finished. I used a wrapped block of Oasis (I would have made a slab cake if I'd had more time) and cut lengths of willow and hazel and stuck them to the sides with double sided tape. Very quick and easy to do - and no worries about cakes or icing dropping off!
