sandyhas3chucks
There are often postings asking how many chooks can sleep in an Eglu. There are various replies, but mine will be VERY different from now on. I currently have a hen residing in my spare Eglu, (she is a lost chook and I expect at bedtime someone is quite upset) But.... and I know for some of you you will not be surprised, I had NO IDEA chooks came in size ex large She is huge!!!!! Very beautiful, Very tame. very loud. But FLIP my smallest ex bat is a quarter of her size and my biggest at 2kg is half! So how many chooks in an Eglu, only 2 of her size!!!!! she spills over all round the edges of the nest box too Becky Boo, where are you? she was found up the main road, next village if you hear of someone looking, she was handed in to Fred! Stevie
I've got four in mine, but since they all squish together into one giant poultry blob at night (i've peeked!)-i could get atleast another 2 in there!
jimnpaula
When I got my ex bats they stayed at Tara's for a few days - we had to squash 7 into an eglu at night (I supposed they were quite used to it ) P
sandyhas3chucks
I have 4 ex bats easy peasy, but seriously you would be hard pushed(no pun intended) to get 3 of this girls size in. We should remember that when we answer newbies. like great dane is to corgi

sandyhas3chucks
Rhode Island Red. When my biggest was outside the run and next to her she looked approx twice as big and my girl weighs in at 2kg, so maybe not as big as I rthought, but made my smallest ex bat look like a bantam. BUT...... OMG. What a darling
Woodcat
Rhode Island Red.When my biggest was outside the run and next to her she looked approx twice as big and my girl weighs in at 2kg, so maybe not as big as I rthought, but made my smallest ex bat look like a bantam. BUT...... OMG. What a darling i've got a Rhode Island and shes bigger than my hybrids but not as much as that so i think you've probably got a very big Rir there or some small exbats.. sandyhas3chucks
yes we fell in love, she was hatched. 1 of 7 ... 5 cockerals. They called Chookzilla Bunty. I do think that she was a very large specimen., not Only seen my girls there is a Poultry place nearby and have seen a few here and there, non stuck in my mind as being overly huge. She only just fitted in a small plastic cat carrier And the Eglu nest box was very funny to see(well actuallu NOT see as chook was positively overflowing out of it She was such a sweetie, had started to hope she might be a chicken of fate But glad she went back to her flock of
