NatalieC
I have to share this with you - yesterday I went to clean out my girls not realising that Ramona was in the nesting box. When I did realise, I didn't want to disturb her so very gently opened the egg door to see if she had finished. Ramona was just ready to lay and did a funny sort of "dance", I guessed she was about to drop an egg so put my hand out and she laid a beautiful egg right into my hand! How is that for fresh aggs - my OH thinks its hysterical and says I'm lucky thats all I got in my hand! Has anyone else actually caught an egg? Smiler33
Clever Ramona! I've only had ours for just over a fortnight and only 1 is laying at the moment, but I've caught her a few times in the nesting box. I'm daft cos I just say sorry to disturb you Betsy and leave her for a bit!
JanTheDiver
I'm daft cos I just say sorry to disturb you Betsy and leave her for a bit! I don't think you are daft at all as I always apologise to my girls if I disturb them in the nest
AmberSky
I once opened the coop to see an egg drop from one of my girls, though i always get the feeling its like walking in on a young lady whilst in the toilet, i feel very guilty and intruding and as well i have to apologise and come back later to continue cleaning the coop! Seagazer
I had the same thing as Ambersky and felt quite rude for disturbing Butch as she was laying her egg but it was so brilliant to see it happen. She did give me a funny look though and a bit of a telling off.
Raina
Lady Lay doesn't mind me watching her, well i don't think she does she normally lets me stroke her and doesn't make a fuss about it. She's the perfect chicken lol she'll happily lay eggs in the nesting box while i take the top off and clean it (leave the nest box last if she's in there)she just watches me lays and egg the wonders off Orakiah though, i was ill so i didn't clean the girls out for nearly a week (I was i bed with bad back & hips) i thought both girls were in the run, opened the egg port door and Orakiah made such a noise,it was horrible! now i always make sure she's in the run before opening the egg port! Tutti Frutti
Aaah it's just magical! Tallulah was looking miserable the other day and I'd just lifted her up onto her shelf to take a closer look when she laid an intact softie right into my hands It was just like a stress ball - but with a visible yolk Then she shot off and started stuffing her face! whoopsie
Oh that's so sweet. I've had a couple of eggs laid at my feet (by Margot too impatient to get out of the run rather than finish lying her egg!) but never in my hand yet.
