Lesley
Update? Our ducks have had ducklings - we have 3 left now which are full size. We think they are all drakes..... .......ducks make a lot of mess ..... I prefer hens will that do?

The Dogmother
.......ducks make a lot of mess Lesley's duck enclosure is like a swamp! I guess that if you have a stream or a pond that is fed by one, then it might be better. Some friends of ours have a large pond with moving water and it seems to be fine. red
I have a stream at the bottom of my garden but it dissappears to a mere trickle in summer and in winter it is so fast flowing I fear they would be whisked away!!
The Dogmother
Perhaps you could divert some off to feed a stream if you want some ducks Red.
red
I don't think tere's enough space or water to do that (I may have made it all sound a bit grander than it really is ) Also I would be reluctant to divert in any way because it has been flowing as it has for very many years and knowing my luck I'd do something to change the natural course of things so much that the hamlet would get flooded or something daft! Caroline
We were thinking about ducks but a friend who used to have a smallholding says that ducks don't take themselves to bed like chickens do Just saw this.....our ducks take themselves to bed quite happily. They do stay up later than the chickens but they do go to bed. We only showed them where bed was twice and they did it themselves. Bloomin' chickens took WAY longer to learn!!
