alisonclair
Hello I re-homed 5 ex-bats last September, and I love them to bits. Howevr, me and my partner are seriously considering re-locating to France. Does anyone know if I would be allowed to take them with me?????? I couldn't bear to leave them behind. Anyone got any experience in this area? If I could take them, I would do it in the best way possible, to avoid long uncomfortable journies. Thanks Alison

Sarahsausage
I think you need to research quarantine laws etc etc, you might not be allowed to take them? Also, what about the stress of such a long journey, feeding and watering them during the journey etc etc. Would it not be kinder to find them a new home? You can get more hens once you've moved to France?
Egluntyne
I should think your best bet is to contact DEFRA and ask them.
chickyhazel
I think it would be far to traumatic for the poor chickens, especially as they are ex-batts. I would rehome them and get some more in France. It's the kindest thing, really! Debby Tutton
You probably have already sorted this but it was a question I asked 3 years ago. After various phone calls with DEFRA I was adamantly told that chickens are poultry and poultry cannot be exported without an export licence and then only in batches by the 1000. I clearly remember one man saying bluntly "Chickens are not pets madam" I won't tell you what I said but he won't say it again ! We planned to give ours to my father but then, just before we did they were Foxed. We are now located in France with some new girls.
