Ammonia smell in coop-first time owner

I feel so bad! my husbands not impressed either.

 

I opened them to collect the eggs and she just jumped right up and off!

 

 

Is there any chance of getting her back??

 

 

Yay.. We got Tigger back. She was hiding under the decking and hubby came back from work and caught her with sons fishing net.

 

I have been told not to open them again.

 

So happy to have her back thought we had lost her for good.

Don't blame yourself. I have lost two quail in the past as a result of not being quick enough when I opened the door. I would have lost more but mine are now in a run inside the WIR. If they escape they only go into the run now.

Are their wings clipped? They're so small they can just fly off. Our girls used to sometimes fly from the hutch to the middle of the lawn to the guinea pig run! One of the males tried it and went over next-doors fence and wasn't seen again

I must have left my hutch door open one morning last week, and when my sister came home from school there were 8 quails running around the garden! the amazing thing is, our fences are only about 3 feet high but she still managed to catch them all and put them back!

 

Took her quite a while, apparently
