How old do these chickens look? *Confused*

Recommended Posts

Im Slightly confused.

Betty and Rita do not lay, we was told that they will lay in about a week, ( we was told that 2 weeks ago)..

Thanks and please answer my other question

'2 cream eggs, will they lay tommorow?'

Thankyou

Picture, Rita is the one with white, Betty is the other.

They look youngish - maybe about 20-22 weeks..

They should lay before 30 weeks, probably sooner than that as their faces are starting to go red which is normally a sign that they are reaching maturity

It may well be soon but the breeder would not have known that they would lay 'in about a week'

When they are ready to lay they get nice big crests! Our second lot of GNR looked like that when we first got them and they were 14 weeks old.If they are that young, it will be another 8-10 weeks before they start laying

GNR Hazel, Ranger, Audi, Porsche, RIP Chestnut, +1 not named

(Bluebelle) Noodle

(purple eglu) x1

(cube pink) x1

It's very hard to gauge, but I think the breeder was a bit optimistic about 'a week'! They look quite similar to my POLs which I bought recently at 17 weeks old - but they could well be older than that, I would guess you may have three or four weeks to wait.

Don't give up hope, the eggs will be worth waiting for. The main thing is that they look like happy, healthy hens!

If you bought them as Point of Lay (PoL), then they can be anywhere between 16 and 20 weeks. Hens start to aly around 20 weeks, some earlier, some later.

TBH, it would have been wiser for the supplier to say that they'd lay in about a month, rather than a week.

I'd say around the 20 week mark too, so not long to go.
