Got chickens. Got Eglu. Love it!!

Recommended Posts

I finally did it! Went to farmers auction last week and bought 3 lovely lavander Pekin Bantams (Temporary names Bossy Boots, Scaredy Cat and Cry baby) as well as a house and small run :D .

Didnt like the house at all - really awkward to get into and i couldnt sleep for worrying about foxes - so ordered an Eglu, extension and cover and they arrived today!

They love it and so do I  . I bought an extra cover thingy and together with the one that comes with the eglu most of the run is covered and they are happily running about despite the wind and rain. Am now officially obsessed by all things chicken.

OMG! They are making a racket! Wont stop till I go out but its raining heavily and I cant spend the evening standing in the garden. Do you think they want to go back into the old coop? They can see it from the Eglu run and are standing at the door squacking. My neighbours might complain.

if they can see the old house they will want to go in it

try moving the shades so they cant see it

If that fails you can put a torch in the Eglu when it gets dark and they should go in ok, you could always scoop them up and post them in through the Eglu 'eggport' door

Thanks for your replies. I will attempt to post pictures soon - not sure how to do it. Covered up the old coop and 2 of them went to bed. One wouldnt go despite being rounded up by top hen and got distressed so I tried to pick her up and of course she escaped. Much flapping ,screeching and running round the garden later and they are all finally tucked up in bed. Im exhausted, muddy and wet yet again - didnt know this chicken keeping was going to be a full time job!

Hi green Tara and welcome

How lovely, lavendar pekins, I love them

dont worry too much, they will soon get to know where 'home' is and will put themselves to bed. How old are they? Often young birds cheep an awful lot at bedtime, i liken it to little children crying when they are tired but not wanting to go to bed

I too look forward to seeing some pictures :D
