sjp
no need to cook it but don't be supprised if they ignore it the first time I put a cabbage out for my 2 new girls yesturday and to say they aren't inpressed is an understatement. mind they hybrids were the same last year so I don't know why i was supprised
chelsea
Yep, no need to cook. Corn on the cob is my girls fave (hung up) and it will keep them occupied for ages. My girls also like a strip of millet occasionally and once in a while one of those honey seed bars you buy for parrots/budgies (not made with animal fats). chick wiggle
No such thing as a silly question No need to cook, but the first time i hung broccolli up for my girls they ran a mile, im sure they were expecting it to explode! They love sweetcorn and cabbage hung up though!
dannablue
Mine didnt like broccoli the first time but now love it. Keeps them quiet for ages! And corn on the cob. Love the millet idea. Another favourite pass time is picking up the corn or dried mealworms I throw all over the floor...I really am a messy Mummy! They are utterly disgusted to have to clean up my mess
Alis girls
I dont think its silly as with a 2 week wait before my girls arrive I am gleaning as much info as poss. We often have left over cooked pasta as OH is heavy handed with the packet - can I give it to hens if its got pasta sauce on it? Donl't laugh its a serious query - tomato sauce
Alis girls
I am serious - its not me being silly - would it upset their tums to have pasta with sauce on? I could wash it off I s'pose - same with cooked rice - i take it plain is the best. thanks in antiscaipation
piglet
thanks for your ideas, they have had a lovely day pecking away at it, they have stripped it back to the stem! i only ever give mine plain pasta and rice, i would wash the sauce off first, sauces from jars usually have added salt and sugar which i didnt think they were meant to have
chick wiggle
Yep, I just put it in a colander and run it under the tap, same with tinned sweetcorn or tuna.
Alis girls
OOh ta - I did think about that and I wont add any Paremesan either. My chucks arrive in 2 weeks and just want to be ready for them
atsw
would it upset their tums to have pasta with sauce on? Given they will happily eat slugs, snails, worms and even small frogs , I wouldn't worry too much about a little left-over sauce on the pasta . Oh, by the way, if you get a chance, try them on left-over spaghetti, absolutely hilarious to watch . Andrew
Avalon Fantasy
Mine are Corn on the cob mad and adore the meal worm packs like no tomorrow... And I have to confess, that the other day DD purchased two chocolate cornflake crispies... well seriously, these were the most horrid things I have ever eaten, however.. chickie was eyeing this from afar with great interest so I foolishly bent down to let him try..well.. you would think that the heavens had opened..he called the girls who came running as if their lives depended on it and then proceeded to jump and get bits of choc for them all.. So instead of binning the aforementioned crispie the girls and chickie ate the lot! I am certain that chocolate isnt good for them.... (I`m not giving them Easter eggs ok... but its a funny thought all the same.............. talk about coals to Newcastle...)
