shuler
Today we have taken delivery of our eglu classic. We had already built a spacious run and now have 4 lovely ladies! However, we are trying to find out if we have bought too many chickens to fit in the eglu. The breeds we have are and Amber, Black Sussex, Nera (Rhode Rock) and Goldline. Have we got too many/too big chickens for the size of our eglu?
poachedegg
Welcome to Omlet Shuler and congratulations on your new eglu and chooks! - 4 chickens will easily fit in an Eglu, it is the outside space you need to consider and by the sounds of it they are more than catered for in their run. chick wiggle
Hi Shuler and welcome to the forum No, they should be absolutely fine, they all cuddle up close toghether on a night anyway, like Poachedegg says, its the outside space that matters, so they'll be very happy in their new home. Redwing
Hi and welcome to the forum As the others have said it sounds like you have this covered, if your run is a permenant one then the chooks will happily all sleep in the Eglu. If however they need to spend time in the Eglu run (ie your run is not foxproof and you are out a lot) then the Eglu run is too small for them
Olly
Another one with five living happily in an Eglu, the size of the run is what counts. I've got 3m x 2m full height, so they have quite a bit of space - I think the rough gauge is 1m sq per chicken.

Carol U
I have 6 in my eglu and they all sleep together in one corner of it. I could easily get more in if necessary. As someone else said, it's the run size which is important and I have a big wir. I did have another house in the run, but took it out in the end as they wouldn't use it!
