choc lab puppy managed to get into eglu

Recommended Posts

I thought I would just warn people that my seemingly cute choc lab puppy, managed to break into the eglu today. We have a WIR and cube and an eglu and omlet run with a poorly chicken in it. While our back was turned the puppy managed to get the metal clip off the eglu house and pull it out of the hole so that the house could just then be pushed off!!!! Chicken (Evil Emma) was ok as she was actully on the front lawn at the time in another run. It could not have taken the puppy long, as the first we knew was that she was running around the garden with the clip in her mouth!!! :wall:

She has actually twisted the plastic house out of shape!!!!!!! It took OH and I an hour and considerable effort to get the black slidy thing through the hole in the top part of the house and put the clip back, as the black slidy thing was no longer lined up with the hole in the house on either side. I had to open the egg house door, stand on it to push the side down so the hole in it was level with the black slidy thing, while my OH hammered the black clip through with a mallet! Lots of cursing involved and glares to the puppy (only 6 months old) as she sat incomfort on the sofa looking at us through the window, while my OH muttered something about digging a shallow grave!

OH has now put some bricks by the side of the eglu to hide the clips from her, but this is obviously something to be aware of.

flippin heck, I can imagine something getting the locking pin out I have knocked mine out when I had forgotten to lock it down, but then to get the slider out. :eh::eh: he hass to go round rg other side then pull backwards and low? THEN get nose under to lift it off!!!!!!!!

If the plastic is twisted then contact omlet as there has to be a fault in it!! IMO

thank goodness poorly chook was NOT in it!!!

If the bar has bent you can remove it and replace it with a new one or remove it and try to straighten it (you need to undo the screws holding the front and base together to do that though)

When you put the metal clip through the round ring should snap down over the bar and so should be hard to remove

Yes that is her in the avatar, she has grown a bit since that picture was taken! :D

She has got hold of the ring part of the clip and had a game of tug with it, until she has got it out. I think the black bar is ok, I might take it apart at some point and have a look at how it works anyway, so thanks for that tip!

It seems to be the actual plastic house as the slots which the black bar go through are now now misalined! We have had it for 3 years and has been fine until this. I am going to leave it for a couple of months, bolted in as I am hoping that the force of the clip holding the plastic in place will pull the plastic back to the shape!
