Helly Welly
For the last two days rruniing a sparrowhawk has been seen in the area. On Sunday it flew overhead, although quite low, scaring the girls and the pigeon they were cxhasing. Yesterday it caught a blackbird in the garden next door. Will it go for the girls as i've read that the females will go for larger prey such as collared doves?
bronze
I wouldnt have thought so Sparrowhawks are pretty small birds (about a foot or so long)
Helly Welly
I know, i was panicking unnecessarily. I just don't often see birds of prey in the middle of town!
harveypup
Gosh! Maybe you could keep them in the run for a day or two just in case?
Snowy
I don't think they will take a large chicken there is a thread on it here somewhere! We are just out of the city, and I have seen them here, but not since I've had the girls!

Chickybaby
I reularly get a sparrowhawk in the garden. So far all it has done is just sit on the fence and stare at my girls. They make a hell of a noise though and either go back into their run or hide under a bush. Eventually the sparrowhawk flies off.
hillfamily
We had a Sparrowhawk take a blackbird out of our garden last year First and only time we have ever seen one locally. Based on that I don't think they're that interested in Chooks - too big

chelsea
a sparrowhawk would have to be the bird equivalent of Arnold Schwarzenneger to lift my Ella
