Poorly Chicken an no Experience

Recommended Posts

Whit maggots and meal worms are my girls fav, Babs has been on them for a week to help her throught her illness.

I read somewhere that they are mainly protein (which is good for thin chickens) i get mine from the local fishing

shop.

I am going to have a go with clicker training the girls with these as they will do ANYTHING for them. :P

I think I just sicked up a little bit in my mouth :vom::oops: ... OK will do :anxious:

We have managed to make her a bed seperate from the others which she loves and this morning she had laid two softees :( ... I suppose good in one respect as she hasn't laid for months while she was poorly.

We've already introduced oyster shell and I'm just making her a mash of crushed up egg shells, weetabix and plain yoghurt.

Please keep the advice coming and thankx again

She's now eaten the mash of weetabix, 2 egg shells and yoghurt, albeit in two sittings and I grated some apple on the last bit for her.

Hope this question doesn't sound stupid but do they enjoy laying eggs or would she rather have a break. I think she's probably been laying softees for a long time and wonder whether it was that nearly killed her months ago.

I'm just trying to figure out whether to try to get her shells OK or just give her a laying break ... would really wecome some advise on this please

PS ... Have I become attached by any chance  ... was also mortified last night to read how short a life span they have :(

has anyone told you about limestone flour, inexpensive from horsey shops, may help with the shells. In winter or less sunny times used with cod liver oil as it has D3 in it, needed for calcium absorbton

Thanks Sandy ... will add to my ever increasing shopping list  xx

oh that shopping list can get long, trying to keep it simple for you. I didn't know it but seems you can buy liquid calcium at chemist. zolcal D.

don't know how the price comparison works out, but they would not be allowed to sell it to you for a chicken

I've just googled it to see what I personally might need such a thing for and all I can come up with is its uses for birds and reptiles  ... should I say that I'm really a reptile but keep appearing human and therefore need zolcal to reptify by deficiency :mrgreen:

Quick update ... Ezzie laid a perfect egg today and has spent the day with the other girls foraging, dust bathing and non stop eating :D

I think the swelling is going down on her toe but I still think its infected. Now she's stronger and happier I think I'm going to try the iodine and sugar method. I'll leave it until she's ready for bed though and hopefully if it is a little uncomfortable she'll sleep through it

Thanks again everyone for so much help :)
