Fox warning from neighbour today

Recommended Posts

We've just had a visit from a neighbour who lives a few doors to the side of us. She said that this morning about 3am her next door neighbour saw a big fox trying to get at their pet rabbit. Rabbit is ok.

My neighbour knows we have chickens, so she came round to tell me about this night-time fox sighting.

I've had my chooks three years this weekend & never heard sight nor sound of a fox before now. I'm sure foxy will know that we have chooks here now :(

So from now on I will lock the cube door every night, & only let my girls free range when we're in the garden.

I'm very happy to have such caring neighbours to warn me of this  and to have a WIR which gives my girls plenty of room to play.

I doubt if there is anywhere that doesn't have a local fox, and unfortunately the first time you know of it is sometimes when it's too late, glad your neighbour warned you. As for he/she knowing you have chickens ... well, given the fox's keen sense of smell and hearing, he's probably known about them since day 1! It's good to know about the risk though, means you won't take any chances.

Thats nice of them :)

My neighbour was quick to point out how the last people that lived here only had their chickens long enough to get two eggs out of them before the fox ate them - but i don't think they were warning me so much as trying to tell me i shouldn't have got chickens

How nice that they thought of you!

WE have local foxes, i've even seen one in daytime sleeping in next doors garden. However, i don't know of a single fox coming into our garden since we've had chickens. Foxy has walked around next doors garden with the chooks squawking but he's not even looked our way.

Don't panic, follow your normal safe procedures and get OH to pee around the garden
