Plum
I've got a lot of bits of wood where I have butchered a pallet and planed and sanded it, so can you give me some inspiration on making perches and climbing frames for my run. It'll keep me quiet this weekend instead of stamping my feet impatiently and driving family crazy waiting to hear when my run is coming Pics please
poachedegg
I know you're getting a WIR, however just for an idea, with our Cube train we have a mixture of freestanding perches, broomhandles and a mezzanine level at different angles to each other so basically they can come out of the Cube and not step on the floor until they get to the run door - it's like a mini chicken 'Go Ape!' Ain't Nobody Here
I've done something similar - my older ladies need steps as they're not so able to jump from perch to perch now . Here's some of our gym at various stages .
Plum
Where's the rope for them to swing on ANH. There were some photos of free standing ones. I'll check out run pictures thread. Chick Wiggle will you post yours again? Pretty please.
Tutti Frutti
I've revised my pyramid - would you like a photo of that too? Pretty please, cos I'm very proud of it

Plum
I know you're getting a WIR, however just for an idea, with our Cube train we have a mixture of freestanding perches, broomhandles and a mezzanine level at different angles to each other so basically they can come out of the Cube and not step on the floor until they get to the run door - it's like a mini chicken 'Go Ape!' I like the 'Go Ape' concept. I've seen a picture somewhere probably yours where they walk over a rope bridge (lawn edging rolls).

Tutti Frutti
Watch this space I'm watching! Talking of Go Ape, I'm also waiting and watching to see you rig up a wire coat hanger as a zip wire
Plum
And then persuade a chicken to hang on to it Someone did post pics of a chicken that sat on a swing they made but then created because they couldn't get off.
snowcloud
I took some old pallets and built a tree house for ours in their run... ...they love it. And they sleep on it in the summer rather than in the eglu .
Plum
Now you're talking. That is inspiration. Not got very far yet but done two perches and the cat sat on them

Plum
That's it thanks, can see now what he did. I was thinking of doing an area in their run with different bedding like woodchip to give them extra textures and interest. On concrete so will have to ponder how to do the surround. Tutti Frutti
Here's Sophia showing off her Mk2 Perching Pyramid!!! I took off one of the horizontal struts and replaced it with a sticking out branch, giving them more room to perch
Plum
Pretty Sophia. Looks like you have food hanging in it and a tray underneath. Great idea
Tutti Frutti
Yup A special diddy feeder just for corn which we bought at the Reading Bantam Show... and the saucer collects any spillage which the girls hoover up for me... so no food on the floor to attract Mr Ratty or Miss Mouse
Plum
Well I've had a go and ................... 'You wouldn't catch me up there, do take care Grackle' 'She's not got it very square, Sophia could do a better job' I like my steps though

Plum
Oh just send me your old pallets and I'll knock you up something Thanks for comments it's not quite wow. Next project is a covered dustbath. They like dustbathing under the cube and although they'll still have that area I thought I would do like a shelter so they have somewhere to hide out of the wind because the sides of the run will be open. I will also need a shelf they can sit on but I have the piece of picket fencing I could use.
sewitall
That's just great. Their own high jump course. No fat or flabby chickens on your patch then. Angela
Tutti Frutti
That's what it reminded me of... the parallel bars! All you need now is a trampoline and you can train your chooks up for the Henlympics 2012
Tutti Frutti
A photo of my newbies having an afternoon nap... It all went quiet in the run, the big girls were preening and then I saw the three newbies... so pleased they like their pyramid!!!
