iandjsmum
Three days to go til our first ever lot of chicks hatch and they are tucked up cosily with the broody hen in an ark in the garden. However I am worried that it will be too cold for the chicks to be outside, once they hatch. Should I leave them or move them with mum indoors (or into the garage) for the first week or so? Also if I handle them will it put mum off them (like in the wild) or is that OK? Many thanks
Janty
Our broody hen is coping well with her babies outside. She walks up to the feeder and drinker, calls the babies to her and they snuggle up underneath her just popping their heads out to eat and drink. It's quite sweet. They are quite happy to wander about as well.
Griffin
I've got two lots of chicks outside with their broody mums, no problem at all. They're a lot hardier than incubator hatched & artificially reared chicks and don't seem to feel the cold as much. Silly Nelly even sits out in the rain with one chick under each wing! iandjsmum
Thanks for replies. Gorgeous chicks Janty. I hope mine look like that. Sounds good to me as don't really fancy kitchen full of children and chickens if I can possibly help it. I suppose I will just have to see how they get on. don't like to disturb the broody hen either if I can help it.

Lewis
Great photos Janty Will move Hilary to the + run once the chicks hatch. Are they alright without having anything round the bottom of the run + does she sit in the poo tray with them?
Janty
We haven't got anything in our garden that would bother them and the eglu is a rablu so perfect for chicks and a broody. They are very well behaved chicks. She calls them and the response is instant.
